LaDIYfest Reading/Discussion Group – Thinking About Transfeminism

It’s LGBTQ History Month so to celebrate this and protest Julie Burchill and Suzanne Moore’s recent verbal assault on trans women, we thought we’d hold a reading/discussion group about transphobia, transfeminism and the importance of building a more trans-inclusive feminist movement.

We’ll be reading…
– The Transfeminist Manifesto: http://eminism.org/readings/pdf-rdg/tfmanifesto.pdf
– Towards an Insurrectionary Transfeminism (very short): http://bmorereadinggroup.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/towards-an-insurrectionary-transfeminism-read.pdf
– Voices from the Trans Community: ‘There will always be prejudice’http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/jan/22/voices-from-trans-community-prejudice

This will be a very informal discussion suitable for anyone to attend. If you don’t have time to read all/any of the suggested reading then please come along anyway if you’d like to discuss the issues.

Monday 25th February, everyone of any gender welcome, at The Green Room on Division Street.

(P.S. If you didn’t follow the Burchill/Moore timeline, here’s what happened:http://storify.com/leftytgirl/suzanne-moore-timeline-of-trans-misogynistic-twittand http://www.birdofparadox.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Transsexuals-should-cut-it-out-_-Julie-Burchill-_-Comment-is-free-_-The-Observer.pdf)
