OK I know it’s only February, but the blossoms out and the dafs are up, so take a look at what’s going on around you:
On Wednesday 10th February, as part of The Showroom’s celebrations of LGBT History Month they are screening Jamie Babbit’s ‘Addicted To Fresno’ and yours truly will be giving a very brief introduction about activism in Sheffield, about queer cinema and I’m not currently quite sure what else, but come along and hopefully I’ll be joined by some pals also talking and it will be a great laugh. There is also a disco afterwards by Chicks With Decks and INVERT and a ping pong table?! Find us in the bar before and after the screening! Queer Agenda Sheffield have even been so kind as to organise a social meet up so there’s literally no reason not to be there because all the best babes will be ❤
Speaking of QASH, they’re holding a queer coffee morning at Coffee Rev on Saturday 20th Feb, discussing ‘Is Queer Struggle History?’ so bob along for a chat and a vegan muffin, nom.
More film news.. As our nod to LGBT History month, we are showing a free screening of ‘Appropriate Behaviour‘ a film written, starring and directed by the brilliant Desiree Akhavan – “Shirin is struggling to become an ideal Persian daughter, politically correct bisexual and hip young Brooklynite but fails miserably in her attempt at all identities. Being without a cliché to hold onto can be a lonely experience.” – Head to The Void at Sheffield Hallam University on Wednesday 24th Feb. The screening will start at 6:30 sharp, so grab yr seat from 6:15. The cinema seats 92 and will be a case of just turn up and bring yr popcorn, or maybe we will make some popcorn, either way, it is FREEEE! So bring yr pals and come join us!! (FB event)
Next up, following on from the massively successful foodbank drive that we were involved in with Sheffield Food Collective, comes another – This Lent ‘give something up and give something to those in need‘ – which will be run between February 10th to March 24th via chaplaincies at the Children’s Hospital and both Universities. More details to follow! As ever, you can continue to take donations to any gig that’s on at Audacious.
And last but not least, two awesome gigs coming up in May that we are responsible for! On Thursday 5th May we welcome Try The Pie, Two White Cranes, Be Still My Heart and AMereKat and on Friday 13th May the incredible Rae Spoon, with Jesus and His Judgmental Father and Ganglions. Both shows will be at The Audacious space and there will be more deets on this here blog soon.
AAAHHHH 2016 is turning out alright, innit?
